The Atlanta Braves recently announced their 26-man roster for MLB's Opening Day. One position group that is sort of lacking is the middle-infield group. Aside from Ozzie Albies, there is no real power threat, and even Albies' power is starting to regress.

A recent trade prediction by FanSided's Mark Powell, the veteran MLB writer, suggests the Braves should make an offer to the New York Yankees about Anthony Volpe. Volpe will start the 2026 season on the IL, and if New York finds a better solution at shortstop, Volpe might be expendable. If the cost isn't too high, should the Braves consider making a move for the Yankees' controversial infielder?

In a 'Best landing spots for 7 rising trade candidates" piece by Mark Powell, the Braves are named the best landing spot for Anthony Volpe:

"Just a few years ago, the Yankees never would've considered trading Anthony Volpe. He was deemed the shortstop of the future – perhaps their next Derek Jeter. While Volpe's had his moments in MLB, especially defensively, he took a step back in 2025. The gold glove winner's WAR was cut in half last season. The Yankees can't have that, and could instead move on from Volpe in favor of a more consistent player at the position."

Volpe tore his labrum at some point during the 2025 season, which may have hindered his production with the bat. In 2025, he hit .212 with 19 home runs, 72 RBI, and 114 hits. Paired with his lackluster glove, a lot of Yankees fans are calling for New York to make a major decision with the 24-year-old infielder.

Would the Braves Trade for Anthony Volpe?

The next part to digest about this trade idea is whether the Braves actually trade for Anthony Volpe? And what would Atlanta give up in a potential deal?

As shallow as the Braves' infield depth is, Atlanta might feel comfortable with their internal options of Mauricio Dubon and the eventual return of Ha-Seong Kim.

However, if the Yankees' asking price for Volpe is low, the Braves could offer either a mid-tier prospect or a player like Nacho Alvarez Jr., who just missed the cut of the Opening Day roster, but is at the top of the farm system pecking order.

Time might be running out for Anthony Volpe in New York, but there's a chance he benefits personally from a change of scenery as well.

Volpe has played in 472 career games and has 52 total home runs and a lifetime 84 OPS+. His time in Pinstripes has been very controversial
